Saphhire Sapphires are members of the Corondum family of minerals. They exist in nearly every color except red because red corondums are called "rubies". Heat treatment is used to deepen the color and improve the clarity. Cornflower blue is the most popular color. In 1865, the first US sappires were found in the Missouri River in Lewis & Clark County, Montana. They are also found in Ceylon, Thailand, Australia, India, Africa and Brazil. |
